Santa Rosa

Known for its lively social scene and thriving downtown area.

Welcome to Santa Rosa

Just 55 miles north of San Francisco you will find Sonoma County’s largest city, Santa Rosa. Known for its lively social scene and thriving downtown area, it is a great home base for exploring everything California wine country has to offer. Santa Rosa boasts an urban vibe and vibrant culture that is just waiting to be explored. Visitors are drawn to this unique city that is the happening hub for everything to see, do, eat, drink, hike, bike, and explore in Sonoma County.

Santa Rosa's suburbs and historic neighborhoods are home to many of Sonoma County's winemakers and winery personnel, and increasingly, to some of its more interesting wineries. You'll encounter a few Santa Rosa wine tasting rooms in the downtown area, wine tasting in working cellars in several "warehouse winery" clusters in light industrial areas of town, and in a rural area west of town that is a prime sub-region for the Russian River Valley wines.

Located in the heart of California’s culinary epicenter, Santa Rosa is where visitors can feast on Sonoma-grown food and wine. Santa Rosa is a foodie paradise, where farm-to-table cuisine is standard. It has an authentic and vibrant food culture with an array of magnificent dining establishments. Whether you are meeting a friend for a quick bite, grabbing drinks with a co-worker, or enjoying a romantic dinner for two, you really can’t go wrong with dining in Santa Rosa. There are endless delicious choices ranging from California to Latin American flavors, Asian, and beyond that will satisfy any mood or craving. Head to Ausiellos 5th Street in Downtown where you can enjoy their Big Aus Burger with sweet potato fries. Try their Armand’s Spicy Bloody Mary with Tito’s Vodka to go along with it. For a more authentic vibe, head to El Coqui also located Downtown to enjoy mouthwatering Puerto Rican platters and entrees. Their Pollo al Horno with beans, rice, and sweet plantains is a must-try.

Santa Rosa hosts numerous community farmers markets that range from year-round to seasonal, as well as several local farms that offer tours and farm stands. For more of a traditional grocery store feel in Santa Rosa, there are several options including Whole Foods, Oliver's Market, Trader Joe's, Molsberry Market, and Pacific Market. If you are looking for local, one-of-a-kind shops, there’s no better spot than downtown Santa Rosa’s Fourth Street. Fourth Street’s main shopping area stretches from the Santa Rosa Plaza down to E street, a few scenic blocks that offer a pleasant walk on a sunny day. If you are looking for nationally known name-brand stores, The Santa Rosa Plaza is a shopping mall located in the heart of Downtown that features more than 120 specialty stores.

As a resident of Santa Rosa, you will always have something fun to do. There are big events throughout the year like, Northern California’s largest country music festival, a world renowned bike race, sports and running events, car races and shows. You will also find more wine and foodie events than you could possibly attend.
